Now for over 20 years, Peter and Tari Bowman operate this al fresco dining locale great especially at sunset and brunch all day Sunday. The indoor/outdoor areas are beautifully and tastefully decorated and at night the place glows invitingly with hanging light fixtures. Chefs Rafael Nazario and Ignacio Uribe Moreno present an international menu to inspire guests while enjoying the waves rush in and out and people of all shapes and sizes stroll by. Cuban black bean soup is a pleasure to find offered and theirs is rich and creamy with a subtle spicy background. Bruschetta arrived with an avocado salsa, chunky and slightly piquant. For greens, we opted for Matt's Salad with pumpkin seeds, ranchero cheese and roasted garlic dressing.

Whole huachinango [red snapper] is found widely throughout the Bay Area. Here it is small and covered with a tomato sauce, a signature dish. The moist flesh fell off the bones cleanly, a task not hard to learn and many waiters will assist you. Spaghetti marinara arrived with a generous portion of shrimp and tender calamari, always a good seaside creation. The grilled thick cut pork chop was properly cooked and sauced with Thai green curry, rich but not hot. This tender meat was our favorite of the evening.

Pastel de tres leches was a super moist cake and very good, heavily drenched in brandy. It is a classic Mexican dessert. A refreshing gelato was flavored with ginger and Mexican vanilla, a stronger version than is known by many northerners. It reminded me of seeing a huge vanilla vine, member of the orchid family, blooming fragrantly and covered with long pods in Mismaloya. A standard flan was sampled and we found it fine.

Playa Los Muertos is home to quite a number of fine eateries whether for breakfast, light lunch, a sunset drink or a glorious star-lit dinner. We have a comfortable, pleasant and well established home right here.
